If the myGbay logo looks familiar, you’re not imagining things.
Before it became the symbol of a growing lifestyle directory for Georgian Bay, the myGbay name and logo spent several years proudly displayed on a storefront in downtown Midland. The myGbay Store, open for four years, offered clothing and accessories that reflected the spirit of life on Georgian Bay—comfortable, well-made, and ready for anything from a dockside walk to a backcountry hike.
Many locals came to know it simply as “The Tilley Store”, thanks to its reputation as the go-to destination for Tilley Hats in the region. For many years, it was the only place in town where you could try on the iconic Canadian-made headwear in person—perfect for cottagers, travelers, and outdoor lovers alike.
A Legacy Built on the Bay
But the story of the location goes back even further. For 27 years before the myGbay Store, the same space was home to The Windsurfing Shop, operated by Janice. It was a staple in the community for outdoor gear and lifestyle apparel, deeply rooted in the Georgian Bay way of life.
When the space changed hands, the name myGbay was chosen to reflect that same connection to place—just with a fresh look and focus on modern outdoor lifestyle and coastal living.
Interestingly, the mygbay.com domain was originally purchased with the idea of building a local lifestyle directory, a place to showcase the people, businesses, and experiences that make the Georgian Bay region special. But when the opportunity arose to open a storefront, the domain and branding were borrowed for the retail venture.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the retail store was closed, and like many others, our lives took a turn. But the myGbay spirit never left—and now it’s found new purpose.
Full Circle
Today, Ron and Barb, who were behind the myGbay Store, are also behind the myGbay lifestyle directory. The goal is still the same: to celebrate the best of Georgian Bay living. Only now, instead of showcasing that lifestyle through clothing and gear, we’re doing it through stories, listings, events, and community connections—online and accessible to everyone.
So if the logo feels familiar, it’s because you’ve seen it before. It stood for Georgian Bay living then—and it still does now. Only this time, we’re putting the whole region in the spotlight.
Welcome to the next chapter of myGbay.
